Making it very difficult to accomplish this yoursels The chairs seem to do best when recovered in the newer mesh HM fabric done by a profesional. They are actually held in with pins, that get removed from the upper side (under the fabric). They were originally put together without the stretchers between the side rails. -Remove the base and stretcher behind the back support, -Remove the cap screws on the side rails, fold the fabric up, and force the pins out.
